A Burbank, California, elementary school teacher was found dead in her home, and her adult son has been arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities announced May 8.

Kyle Lombardo, 25, of Burbank, was booked for murder and is scheduled to appear in court May 9.

Detectives are investigating the death of Karyn Lombardo, 57, who lived with her husband and son.

Police responded to Ms. Lombardo’s home at the 800 block of North Avon Street at about 10 p.m. Tuesday following a report of an unconscious female.

When officers and paramedics arrived, they found Ms. Lombardo inside the home and performed life-saving measures. Still, she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Burbank Police Department.

Police allege Mr. Lombardo caused his mother’s death during a fight in the family home “based on information obtained and evidence at the scene.”

“There are no outstanding suspects or any danger to the community,” Burbank police said in a release Wednesday.

Ms. Lombardo was a teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School in the Burbank Unified School District, according to media reports.

Superintendent John Paramo sent a message to district families on Wednesday describing Ms. Lombardo as a beloved educator in the community, according to the City News Service.

“Over the course of her highly accomplished career, Ms. Lombardo touched the lives of thousands of students, parents, and colleagues, who will be mourning this loss in the days to come,” Mr. Paramo wrote. “Her dedication, warmth, and passion for teaching touched many students and colleagues’ lives. Her profound impact and loss on this community will be deeply felt throughout the city of Burbank.”

Mr. Lombardo is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
