Videos circulating online appear to show a U-Haul truck driving through a march in Los Angeles in support of the Iranian people’s ongoing demonstrations against the Islamic Revolutionary state.

Screams could be heard as video shows the U-Haul pressing forward while protestors scrambled away.

Moments before, the driver appeared to be stopped when a protestor broke his window, at which point the driver began to accelerate.

The driver, a man who was not identified, was detained “pending further investigation,” police said in a statement Sunday evening.

The police statement said one person was hit by the truck but nobody was seriously hurt. Two people were evaluated by paramedics and both declined treatment, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The incident occurred during a rally in Los Angeles supporting the ongoing Iranian protests. It comes as more than 580 people have died during anti-government protests in Iran in recent days amid a crackdown on demonstrations.

Video released since the incident took place showed the truck was displaying anti-monarchist messaging.

“NO SHAH. NO REGIME. USA: DON'T REPEAT 1953,” the signage read, referencing the 1953 coup d’état in Iran instigated by the U.S. government and the Persian Shah, the monarchical leader of Iran who was deposed by the Islamic Revolutionary state.

The sign suggests that the truck driver opposes reinstalling a monarchy.

Videos taken after the incident show a large crowd of people apparently attempting to remove the driver from the vehicle being held back by officers with the Los Angeles Police Department. The U-Haul’s windows were broken.

Later, demonstrators stripped signage from the vehicle.

The driver’s name has not been released by police, and it’s unclear whether the event was an intentional attack.
