Five people were hospitalized after a helicopter crashed at Huntington Beach, California, on Oct. 11.
The helicopter went down at around 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, according to a statement shared by the City of Huntington Beach. The city said the helicopter came down near a parking lot along the beach between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard.
The city said members of its police and fire departments immediately arrived on the scene and contained the area, after which five individuals were transported to a hospital.
Multiple videos posted on social media purported to show the scene of the crash, with the helicopter appearing to spin out of control shortly after passing over a row of palm trees, and then falling rapidly toward the ground.
Additional posts on social media have shown the wreckage of the helicopter, twisted around some damaged trees along the side of a raised platform at the edge of a parking area.
The city said the crashed helicopter was due to be involved in a Cars and Copters event scheduled for Oct. 12.
An investigation of the crash incident is being launched and Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board officials have been notified, the city announced.
The crash at Huntington Beach occurred after another helicopter crashed along a highway in Sacramento on Oct. 7. That helicopter was being operated by a medical crew.
Following the Sacramento crash, several nearby motorists joined responding firefighters to help lift the wrecked aircraft enough to allow a responder to extricate a trapped paramedic. The paramedic, as well as a nurse and pilot on board, were all taken to hospitals in critical condition following the incident.
