Riverside police arrested two men last week in a murder-for-hire plot, including a California church pastor, who allegedly paid tens of thousands of dollars for the attempted killing of his daughter’s boyfriend.
Detectives say the pastor paid the man almost $40,000 for the shooting, which occurred in October 2023.
According to police, the victim was driving in his car when a driver in another vehicle pulled up and opened fire, hitting him several times. He was only identified as being from Victorville. He sustained gunshot wounds and drove himself to a hospital the night of the shooting.
The father, Samuel Pasillas, 47 of Victorville, was arrested March 13 and booked on solicitation for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon, police said. He is being held at Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Center on a $1 million bail.
He was the pastor at Centro Internacional de Oracion, a Spanish-speaking church in Victorville, according to the New York Post.
Juan Manuel Cebreros, 55, of Long Beach, was also arrested and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the same location, also on a $1 million bail.
Police are urging anyone with additional information to contact Detective Nick Cantino at 951-353-7104 or NCantino@RiversideCA.gov.
