Police are looking for more victims of a scam in which rental vehicles were sold for cash online in Southern California.
Authorities said the sellers used Facebook Marketplace.
They provided fictitious paperwork and cloned keys for the vehicles they sold, only to steal them from the buyers and give them back to the owner, who was leasing the vehicles.
Officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they are looking for more individuals who may have bought a vehicle from the suspects.
Anyone with more information is urged to call the sheriff’s Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention at 800-299-TRAP (8727).
Those who would prefer to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or lacrimestoppers.org.
