An Israeli couple died in a small plane crash near the Nevada border in Truckee, California, on March 30, authorities said.
The couple has been identified by Israeli media as prominent tech investors and entrepreneurs Liron Petrushka and Naomi Petrushka, who have lived in California for the past few years, according to The Times of Israel.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported March 30 that a plane, which departed from Centennial Airport in Denver, Colo., with two people on board, crashed around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday while approaching Truckee Tahoe Airport.
Authorities have confirmed the two fatalities.
The aircraft has been identified as a single-engine Socata TBM9 N960LP, the airport said in a statement on Facebook.
The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are investigating the incident.
At the time of the crash, moderate snow was falling with visibility of half a mile, although winds were light, according to local news station KCRA-TV.
The Truckee Police Department also reported Sunday that the crash posed no threat to nearby structures and did not require any road closures.
The couple were survived by four children, The Times of Israel reported.
In addition to their investments in financial and tech companies, the couple founded and later sold their company, CommerceBid, in 1999 for over $200 million, as reported by CTech, a news outlet focused on Israeli startups.
Mr. Petrushka was also a former professional soccer player for the Hapoel Ramat Gan Givatayim team.
Team Chairman Einav Hazenvald expressed his sorrow following the incident, as reported by The Times of Israel.
“The club bows its head for the death of Liron Petrushka and his wife,” Mr. Hazenvald said. “Liron grew up in the club from the age of 10 and passed through all the teams in the club, including the adults’ team. He played with me in the youth team, where we won the national championship, as well as in the adult team.”
