ARCADIA, Calif.—Three people were killed and two others injured Jan. 2 in a house fire in an unincorporated area near Arcadia.
The fire was reported at 1:01 a.m. in the 5300 block of Tyler Avenue, Los Angeles County Firefighter Craig Little told City News Service.
The house and attached garage were fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived, Mr. Little said. Firefighters had the flames out at 1:31 a.m., he said.
Authorities were not able to determine the genders and ages of the victims, Mr. Little said.
Mr. Little told reporters at the scene there were five people in the house, and two of them were able to escape the home. They were both taken to hospitals in unspecified conditions.
Reports from the scene suggested that one of the people who died was a man who had gone upstairs in an effort to get the other two people out of the burning structure, but the victims were found dead at the bottom of the staircase.
Fire officials could not immediately confirm the reports.
The victims’ names were not immediately available. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
