ANAHEIM, Calif.—Shohei Ohtani will play at Angel Stadium as a Dodger for the first time Tuesday evening, March 26, in the conclusion of the three-game exhibition Freeway Series, taking two at-bats, manager Dave Roberts said.
This will be the fourth time Ohtani will face the team he spent his first six seasons in the major leagues with, before the Dodgers signed him to the largest contract in professional sports history. He is hitless in seven at-bats against the Angels, walking twice.
Ohtani was 0-for-2 with a walk in Monday’s 6–0 loss at Dodger Stadium as the Angels evened the series at one game apiece before a crowd of 27,014.
Ohtani grounded out in the first and third and walked on a full count in the fifth against left-hander Reid Detmers.
The Angels (14–15–2) opened the scoring on Logan O'Hoppe’s three-run homer off Gavin Stone in the second.
Anthony Rendon doubled leading off the third, moved to third on Aaron Hicks’ groundout, and scored on Mike Trout’s groundout.
Nolan Schanuel singled in Trout, who walked, and Taylor Ward, who doubled, in the sixth.
Detmers (2–0) allowed three hits, struck out four, and walked three in five innings. Jose Suarez pitched three hitless innings for his second save of the spring, with one strikeout and one walk.
Detmers, Matt Moore, and Suarez held the Dodgers hitless over the final six innings.
Stone (3–1) allowed four runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking one.
The Angels out-hit the Dodgers, 6–3. Max Muncy singled twice and Freddie Freeman doubled in the first for the Dodgers (14–6–1).
Left-hander James Paxton (0–0) will pitch for the Dodgers Tuesday against right-hander Chase Silseth (1–0).
The Dodgers’ broadcast of the 6:07 p.m. game will be on SportsNet LA while the Angels’ broadcast will be on Bally Sports West. The game will be on MLB.TV as part of its annual free preview, available to anyone with an MLB.com account.
The game will mark the end of spring training play for both teams. The Angels will play their season opener in Baltimore Thursday and the Dodgers will face the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium Thursday in their home opener.
