At least 30 people were hurt in the early morning of July 19 after a vehicle drove into a crowd outside an East Hollywood nightclub, based on the latest estimates from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

According to a Facebook post from the Los Angeles Police Department published around 10:30 a.m. local time, Rampart Patrol officers responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.

“Preliminary information indicates a vehicle drove into a crowd for reasons still under investigation,” the post stated. “When officers arrived, they found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.”

The suspect who fired the shot fled the scene and was last seen heading westbound from Vermont Avenue. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and “possibly armed with a silver revolver,” the post stated. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Rampart Detectives.

The incident, which happened at 4661 W Santa Monica Boulevard, was first reported by the department in the early hours, around 1:59 a.m. local time.

Latest updates report seven people in critical condition, six in serious condition, 10 in fair condition, with seven patients refusing transportation after assessment on scene.

Emergency services are treating patients based on the severity of their condition.

The LAFD said that 124 fire personnel assisted at the scene.

The crowd was standing outside the event venue at the time of the incident.

The vehicle “drove into a taco cart and ultimately ran into a large number of people who were outside of the club,” Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Adam VanGerpen told AXN News.

The majority of the injured have been transported to surrounding hospitals.

No information has been released regarding the driver of the vehicle, or further details of the incident.

The Epoch Times reached out to LAFD for more information and did not receive a response by publication time.

Videos posted on X showed sections of the road in front of the venue cordoned off by authorities, and people being taken away in ambulances. X users posted videos of people lying at the site of the incident being assisted by emergency personnel.

“This will be a large investigation with the LAPD,” said VanGerpen. A majority of the people waiting outside the event venue were female, he added.

The club was hosting a reggae/hip hop event from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to its online calendar.

Francisco Mendez arrived at the scene half an hour after the incident, after hearing that his sister-in-law and her husband had been injured.

The couple had been working at a hot dog stand outside the club when the car drove into the crowd, Mendez said.

“They were both hit and are now hospitalized,” Mendez told the Associated Press.
