President Donald Trump’s administration has offered Katie Zacharia a position as the new White House press secretary, an administration official has confirmed.
The official confirmed to The Epoch Times on Friday that she was offered the position, responding to reports from anonymous sources earlier in the day.
On social media, Trump also confirmed Zacharia will be replacing former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“She was previously involved in my Campaigns, assisting in key Swing States, where we won 7 out of 7,” the president wrote. “She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning.”
Zacharia responded to the news of the job offer in a post on X.
“Serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark is the honor of a lifetime,” she wrote.
“I look forward to working with the White House press corps, and with reporters across the country, to get that record out. Following the fabulous Karoline Leavitt is a high standard, and one worth meeting.”
Zacharia has worked since June as a top communications adviser for Trump Media, which owns the president’s social media platform, Truth Social, according to her LinkedIn social media account. She also worked for the Department of Homeland Security for two months earlier this year.
Her profile also shows she worked as a commentator for Fox News and Newsmax until earlier in 2026, and also as a general counsel for Fix California, a conservative activist group that was founded by Trump’s special presidential envoy, Richard Grennel.
Meanwhile, Zacharia has a long background in the Republican Party, working for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the second term of President George W. Bush and as an intern for the Republican National Committee.
“She’s a great person,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn before departing for Syracuse for a campaign event.
“She’s a friend of most of you. I know she likes people. She likes all of you, actually. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but we just hired a new press secretary, and she’s going to be, I think, terrific.”
According to her profile, she lived in Beijing for several years starting in 2011, and has since become a critic of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) censorship during her media appearances.
Speaking to the “Clay and Buck” show several weeks ago, Zacharia said she worked at a Chinese law firm that was an “outside counsel” for international financial institutions, saying that she has been censored and monitored by CCP officials.
In that appearance, she also said that Trump “has been the most decisive president against China,” adding, “I don’t think there is a bigger threat to our sovereignty than the clear and present threat of China and what they’re attempting to do in America.”
In 2022, Zacharia wrote on social media that the CCP should “free the Uyghurs,” an oppressed Turkic ethnic group of Muslim faith living in western China.
Leavitt, the previous White House press secretary, left the administration in August and has since taken a job at Fox News as a contributor, starting Nov. 1.
Leavitt stepped down from her role during the summer after she gave birth to her second child. Following her departure, there have been few official White House press briefings, although Vice President JD Vance held a news conference on Thursday to detail the administration’s efforts to combat visa fraud.
In the meantime, the Trump administration has banned three media outlets—Politico, CNN, and MS Now—from White House events. A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling on the media outlets’ efforts in court to block the order from being enforced.
Recently, Trump has publicly expressed frustration about his administration’s public relations efforts ahead of the November midterm elections.
“Our country has never done better,” he said at an event earlier this month in October. “We cannot get the word across because of the fake news, and because of the fact that … we’re doing a great job in running the country, but we’re not doing a good job of public relations.”
