On June 20, International American University (IAU) officially established a San Jose campus located on De La Cruz Boulevard in Santa Clara, just minutes away from San Jose International Airport.
IAU is a private institution with a 20-year history in higher education. It primarily focuses on serving international students who lack access to a flexible, high-quality, and affordable American education, its website states. These students generally fall into two categories: students who come to the United States on F-1 student visas, and overseas students who are not U.S. visa holders.
The university already has campuses in Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Diego as well as international ones in Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, and Mongolia.
According to Jeff Lo, president of the San Jose campus, with the advent of the high-tech era, more modern learners are pursuing education while working to keep pace with the fast-changing job market. As a result, private colleges and universities grew rapidly in the 1990s and 2000s. IAU emerged from this wave as a standout institution among the many private schools in existence.
At the opening ceremony of the San Jose campus inauguration, Lo said that IAU’s educational philosophy is to offer academic rigor comparable to large universities, retain faculty with real-world experience, provide flexible course offerings, and deliver quality student services. In order to align with the Christian values held by its founders, the university strives to keep tuition at a reasonable level, with the goal of inclusivity and making higher education accessible to all.
The current programs at the San Jose campus are primarily focused on management (MBA) degrees related to the high-tech industry, Lo said.
He shared about his personal passion and motivation for founding educational institutions.
“Education is the best way to give back to society and the next generation. Education can make the next generation better,” he said.
At the inauguration, The Epoch Times learned that IAU has already received approvals from several government agencies, including the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education, and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (approved by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). It is also listed in the U.S. Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
In addition, IAU has earned accreditation from several independent and authoritative nongovernmental organizations, including the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools, and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
