SAN DIEGO—A woman who was behind the wheel of a sports car that crashed off a Del Mar street, fatally injuring her passenger, was under arrest in a hospital June 20 and facing charges of DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run.

Elizabeth Brooks-Fratus, 52, allegedly fled on foot after the northbound 2019 Maserati GranTurismo she was driving veered off the roadway in the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard late Tuesday evening and struck a parked pickup truck and a tree, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency personnel arrived at the site of the accident to find a gravely injured 62-year-old man in a passenger seat in the Maserati, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said. Paramedics took the victim to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Deputies later tracked down Ms. Brooks-Fratus and arrested her, according to Mr. Collis, who did not disclose exactly when and where she was taken into custody. She was then admitted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries she had suffered in the car crash.
