Just days ahead of the Grammys at Crypto.com arena, vandals have tagged several floors of a deserted high-rise across the street in downtown Los Angeles.

The multi-color tags started showing up this week on the Oceanwide Plaza development, CBS News reported. Twenty-seven floors have been marred with graffiti.

It was unclear how the vandals entered the construction site to gain access to multiple balconies.

A witness quoted by KTLA said the taggers had been at work for the past three nights.

“I could see people up on the balcony were tagging and everything,” said Daron Burgundy, a street photographer. He said graffiti crews were busy above even as police were citing and releasing fellow taggers at street level.

“People were still in there tagging while the cops were down here,” he said, referring to the street.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division posted on X Jan. 31 that police met with the property managers to collaborate on improving security, adding that “the graffiti will be removed.”

The graffiti towers over a tourist hot spot with the Grammy music awards show coming up Feb. 4 at Crypto.com Arena. The high rise sits in full view across Figueroa Street.

The Oceanwide Plaza was projected to feature two 40-story buildings with luxury condos and an even taller building with more condos and a hotel.

Construction began in 2015 but stopped in 2019 when the Beijing-based developer, Oceanwide Holdings, ran into financial difficulties.
