A teenager was shot dead and another was injured in an assault Feb. 12 outside of an elementary school near Cudahy, California, about 10 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
The shooting took place on the 5000 block of Live Oak Street at 12:30 a.m. as children were preparing for class, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s officials said, in a news release, that one of the teenagers was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as 14-year-old Javier Pedraza Jr. by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
The other teenager was rushed to a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds, but they are not considered to be life-threatening, NBC Los Angeles reported. He is currently in stable condition.
“Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of male Hispanic juvenile and an assault with a deadly weapon of a second Hispanic juvenile,” the sheriff’s department said in the news release.
According to authorities, no arrests have been made and no motives have been established.
