IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif.—A man and woman were arrested April 4 on suspicion of attempted burglary and trespassing at a vacant home being remodeled in San Diego County.

At 7:15 a.m. Thursday, a neighbor called the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report a car was sitting outside the vacant home at Ocean Lane and Elm Avenue, OnScene TV reported.

A woman in the driver’s seat and a man exited the vehicle and jumped the fence onto beachfront property, the video news service reported. The woman tried to drive away as deputies arrived, but a deputy blocked her path in the alley.

The man was found and detained. The two were allegedly there to steal copper wiring from the home, OnScene TV reported.

A large piece of driftwood was sticking out of the vehicle’s trunk.

Their identities were not immediately disclosed.
