A man was arrested March 20 after breaking into a home in the early morning while three women were still asleep, according to the Westminster Police Department.
Police responded to a call around 6 a.m. of an attempted break-in by a man at a home on the 14800 block of Cordoba Place.
One of the women said she was awakened by loud noises and was confronted by the suspect, whom police identified as Michael Alan Garnett Jr., 44, of Westminster.
Mr. Garnett had tried to get inside the home through a sliding glass door that led to the woman’s bedroom, police said in a statement.
Another woman got out of the house while the third tried to talk to Mr. Garnett.
Police said Mr. Garnett “lifted his shirt and brandished a hammer to the women while asking for food.”
According to police, the women provided him with a banana until authorities arrived which he consumed, sitting on the women’s living room couch, with a bottle of whiskey.
Officers found Mr. Garnett still inside the home when they arrived and arrested him, according to police. He was booked on burglary and armed robbery charges.
“I can only imagine how terrifying this must have been for the three victims, their quick thinking aided in the police response and probably saved them from harm,” said Deputy Chief Cameron Knauerhaze.
