A collision between two young riders at a motorbike park in western Riverside County, California, over the weekend led to the death of a 9-year-old girl, authorities said.
The girl was riding an electric motorbike June 2 at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park when she and another juvenile also on a motorbike collided, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and paramedics responded to the 20700 block of Cereal Street around 10 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a group performing life-saving measures on the girl, later identified as Brooke Carlton, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
The girl was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center, where she later died. The other child involved in the collision suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
A GoFundMe page was established by a friend of the family. As of Thursday morning, over $73,000 has been raised.
“Yesterday the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track. Our entire family is still trying to understand why our Brookie. But we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with him,” Brooke’s parents wrote in a message on the donation site.
Ally Giles, organizer of the page, said June 4 in a page update that several events will be held in memory of the girl at Fox Raceway, Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, and Havasu Riviera with more details to be released later.
She also said Brooke’s parents will use the donations to give back to Brooke’s friends, close family members, and other children, likely in the form of stuffed animals to honor her memory.
In a statement posted on Instagram Monday morning, the venue where the accident occurred expressed sorrow.
“We are truly sad about the situation. This was such a freak accident. … May you rest in peace, Brooke!”
