LOS ANGELES—A driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter May 28 after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with his SUV and pinning her against an apartment building in South Los Angeles.
Fox 11 reported the man’s arrest and identified the victim as Lisabeth Estrada Rodriguez. KTLA5 identified the driver as Dwight Williams, 31.
According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton, firefighters responded to the 1300 block of West 46th Street, one block east of Normandie Avenue, around 4:35 p.m. Tuesday and found a vehicle that had trapped the victim against a building.
“Sadly, the trapped patient was declared deceased on scene by firefighters. The condition of the vehicle’s driver is unknown at this time,” Ms. Middleton said in a statement.
It was unclear what led to the collision.
Los Angeles Police Department Detective Gerald Chavarria said too many drivers do not exercise caution while driving. “The message is drive prudently,” he said.
City building officials were called to the scene to assess the integrity of the structure.
