A pilot was arrested from the cockpit immediately after landing a Delta Airlines flight in San Francisco on July 26, wanted on suspicion of child sex abuse.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said on July 28 that the 34-year-old pilot was arrested by detectives and booked on felony charges of sex acts with children under age 10.
The pilot was removed from Delta Air Lines flight 2809 from Minneapolis to San Francisco. According to FlightRadar24, the Boeing 757-300 landed at 9:31 p.m. at San Francisco International Airport.
The arrest was made with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, which helped the detectives get access to the airport and plane for the surprise raid.
The suspect has been identified as Rustom Bhagwagar, a resident of Florida. He is charged with five counts of sex abuse with a child under 10 and is being held in the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, California, with bail set at $5 million.
Bhagwagar was previously a registered pilot in San Ramon, California, according to records on City-Data.com.
An official with the Department of Homeland Security said Monday that local authorities led the investigation and arrest operation. The Epoch Times has contacted the Department of Homeland Security for further comment.
Delta said in an emailed statement that it is cooperating with law enforcement and that the pilot has been suspended pending an investigation.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful conduct and will fully cooperate with law enforcement, “ the company said.
The Contra Costa County Office said the investigation started in April and is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact its Investigation Division at 925-313-2600 or leave an anonymous voice message at 866-846-3592. Those with tips are asked to email: tips@so.cccounty.us.
