A 14-year-old student was arrested on suspicion of shooting another student in the parking lot of a Sacramento high school Jan. 30.
The 17-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with a wounded arm, the Sacramento Bee reported. The injury was not considered life-threatening.
The suspect was arrested off-campus, according to police.
The incident took place before 10 a.m. at Grant Union High in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood in northeast Sacramento. Both boys were students at Grant, authorities said.
All sports events and extracurricular activities were canceled for the day, the Sacramento Bee reported.
“I am saddened to confirm the involvement of two students from Grant Union High School in this tragic incident. This was not a random shooting or an incident of someone unlawfully entering the campus,” Twin Rivers Unified School District Supt. Steve Martinez said in a statement posted to the district’s website.
He also thanked law enforcement officials for their “swift and coordinated response.”
