A second eaglet hatched March 29 in Redding, California, according to the nonprofit Friends of the Redding Eagles.

Its parents, Liberty and Guardian, had laid three eggs earlier this year and many locals and others have been watching the eggs progress via a nearby camera that streams to a YouTube channel.

“We have 2 beautiful babies!!! Congrats to Liberty & Guardian on your beautiful family!” the nonprofit said in a March 29 Facebook post.

Liberty, laid three eggs this year on Feb. 15, Feb. 18, and Feb. 21, according to the nonprofit, but one—believed to be the first—broke apart in late February. Egg number two hatched on March 26.

By coincidence, the eggs were laid on the exact dates as three in 2010, from Liberty and her first mate Patriot, according to the nonprofit. As for Liberty and Guardian, the two new eaglets are the 7th and 8th they have raised since 2019 when “they first became a bonded pair,” the nonprofit said.

Newborn eaglets require a lot of care, according to the nonprofit, including being kept warm constantly and fed.

“Eaglets are considered to be ‘altricial’ which means when they hatch they are helpless & require significant parental care to survive. Lucky for this little one it has 2 of the best & most experienced Eagle Parents around!” the nonprofit posted to Facebook when the first eaglet hatched earlier this week.

A live view of the eagle’s nest can be watched on YouTube, thanks to a camera installed near the nest.

Liberty, who is 25 years old, has hatched 26 eaglets with three different partners, according to the nonprofit.

Earlier this month, three eggs laid in California’s Big Bear Valley by eagles Jackie and Shadow were deemed unviable, according to the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, which also provides live updates on social media, with a live camera for viewers on Youtube.

Friends of Redding Eagles gave their condolences to the Big Bear group in a Facebook post March 16, after learning of the news.

“[We] would like to send out our love & heartfelt condolences to all those who love & follow the Big Bear Nest in Southern California,” they wrote.
