Elon Musk is urging parents to boycott Netflix, accusing the streaming giant of pushing a “transgender woke agenda” on children.
In a meme shared on X that Musk reacted to on Oct. 1, Netflix was depicted as a Trojan Horse with its contents labeled “transgender woke agenda,” which was being wheeled into a castle marked “your kids.”
“Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” Musk wrote in his post, a day after criticizing the animated show “Dead End: Paranormal Park” for featuring transgender storylines and themes.
“This is not ok,” Musk wrote in a separate message, amplifying a post by Libs of TikTok that included a clip from the series.
Marketed as suitable for children aged 7 and up, the show includes a character who comes out as identifying as transgender.
The character says, “I’ve never been happier,” and the character stresses the importance of “living your life without apology.”
Libs of TikTok described the program as “pushing pro-transgender” messages on children and accused it of “grooming kids.”
“The scary part is how prevalent this is in kids’ shows,” the account stated. “They’re infected.”
Earlier, Musk said he had canceled his Netflix subscription, citing a post by Dead End creator Hamish Steele that conservatives described as celebrating the murder of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Steele made the comments in response to a condolence message posted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after Kirk’s assassination. Starmer had called the killing “heartbreaking,” while urging civility and rejecting political violence. Steele replied with profanity, accusing Starmer of hypocrisy over arms sales and calling Kirk a “random nazi.”
Musk’s boycott call was quickly echoed by a number of conservative influencers, who urged others to drop the service.
Zach Barack, a voice actor in “Dead End: Paranormal Park” who identifies as transgender, defended the show, saying it gave representation that could save lives.
“I’m happier than ive ever been & if someone had shown me this television program as a kid it wouldve saved me years of hating myself! … kids & parents have told me it saved their lives!!” Barack wrote on X.
Netflix shares fell by about 1.5 percent in pre-market trading on Oct. 1 as Musk’s comments circulated online.
The Epoch Times has reached out to Netflix with a request for comment.
Musk’s call comes amid a wider conservative pushback against corporate America’s adoption of LGBT-related content and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.
In 2023, Target pulled a range of Pride-themed children’s products after boycotts spread on social media. The company cited employee safety concerns after confrontations in stores. Items under scrutiny included LGBT-themed onesies, children’s books teaching transgender pronouns, and swimsuits with “tuck-friendly” labels.
The uproar echoed the backlash against Bud Light earlier that year, after the beer brand partnered with transgender-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Bud Light’s sales plunged, and analysts warned that the brand may never fully recover its market share.
Conservative activists have also pressured companies over DEI policies. John Deere announced this summer that it would no longer support cultural awareness parades and would remove “socially motivated messaging” from training materials. It also stressed that it has no diversity hiring quotas. The shift followed a campaign by conservative activist Robby Starbuck, who accused the agricultural giant of having “gone woke.”
