U.S. President Donald Trump told the U.N. on Sept. 22 that there is no global government and pledged there will be no global taxes while he is president.

Trump made the remarks at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City, saying the United States had helped implement sweeping reforms at the international body, including a 15 percent cut to its 2026 budget and the elimination of more than 4,000 positions from U.N. bureaucracy.

“The United Nations has great potential, I’ve said that for many years, but it must stop imposing the far-left agenda of globalist bureaucrats who nobody ever elected,” he said.

Trump said his administration had to intervene last year to stop the International Maritime Organization, a U.N. body, from “secretly establishing a first-ever global carbon tax.”

The organization proposed a net-zero framework last year that would impose a global carbon tax on international shipping. Discussions on the framework have been adjourned.

The proposed framework would have required ships to comply with a global fuel standard for large oceangoing vessels of more than 5,000 gross tonnage, as part of an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the global shipping industry to net zero by 2050.

Trump said that a global carbon tax would drive up international shipping costs by 10 percent to 20 percent.

Trump also voiced opposition to the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying it was out of control. He said the United States would not allow its service members or others to face ICC investigations or what he called show trials by the tribunal, which he said has no jurisdiction over the United States.

“It is equally unacceptable that with all the genuine atrocities in the world, the UN’s top human rights officials spend their time criticizing the United States for protecting our children from transgender mutilation and transgender insanity and enforcing our immigration laws,” he said.

Trump called on other nations to resign from the ICC immediately.

The president said countries have the sovereign right to set their own policies to tackle illegal immigration.

“There is no human right to illegal immigration, but there is a right to remain a sovereign nation, and we want to remain a sovereign nation. And so should you,” he said.

His speech also touched on artificial intelligence, saying the United States opposed any effort to construct what he called a globalist scheme to control the technology.

The president said the U.S. government would begin referring to AI as super intelligence, noting that the word “artificial” makes the technology sound fake.

“It is not fake. It’s actually amazing. We have to be careful,” he said. “From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world’s, will be changed to use the much more accurate term ‘super’ as opposed to ‘artificial.’ So it’s super intelligence.”

Trump spoke after U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres delivered his final address, urging world leaders to establish international safeguards for the technology.

Guterres, whose last term will end on Dec. 31, said AI has moved at a speed that “has blindsided even those who created it.”
