A Minnesota man has been found guilty of arson and other charges related to an October 2025 attack on a Minnesota ice cream shop.

Firomsa Ahmed Umar, 31, was convicted on all charges related to firebombing Fletcher’s Ice Cream & Cafe in Minneapolis, according to an April 9 press release.

The defendant was convicted of arson, attempted arson, and possession of an unregistered destructive device.

Umar was also found guilty of attacking the business because of “actual or perceived gender identity or sexual orientation,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence of Umar painting “homophobic graffiti” on the outside of a nearby building, about a month before the attacks, according to the statement.

According to court documents, the defendant threw homemade destructive devices at the ice cream shop on Oct. 19, 2025, and Oct. 20, 2025. The shop prominently displayed a rainbow flag associated with the LGBT community.

The court found that Umar filled glass bottles with gasoline and concocted a mixture known as “improvised napalm.”

During the first attack, the defendant threw a glass bottle toward the front window, breaking both panes of glass, and igniting a large blast of flame.

For his second attack, Umar was found to have attempted to open the door and again threw a Molotov cocktail at the facade, upon finding the door locked.

He was arrested on Oct. 20, the day of his second attack, in possession of a gas can, a lighter, and a third bottle, along with ingredients used in the explosive devices.

An attorney for Umar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
