SAN DIEGO—An evacuation order issued for two apartment complexes in Mira Mesa following a natural gas leak caused by a vehicle collision was lifted March 15 evening.

One person was injured in the crash and taken to Palomar Medical Center, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The leak was reported at 3:18 p.m. at Gold Coast Drive and Black Mountain Road, with firefighters arriving at 3:25 p.m. The collision occurred at the same location, according to police.

According to the fire department, Black Mountain Road, between Gold Coast Drive and Carroll Canyon Road, was closed at 4:45 p.m. and will remain closed for several hours.

The leak involved “a large-diameter gas main break with a vehicle on top,” Monica Munoz of the agency said.

Authorities evacuated apartment complexes at 10200 and 10232 Black Mountain Road.

San Diego Police Department officers were called to assist firefighters with evacuations, Munoz said, adding that 20 apartment units were evacuated. Evacuees were taken to Miramar College, according to Munoz. San Diego Gas & Electric stopped the flow of gas but had not made repairs to the line, according to the utility.

The evacuation order was lifted at 6:27 p.m., a police officer said.

It was unclear what caused the collision or if anyone else was injured.
