LOS ANGELES—Two teenage suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and prompting a brief pursuit and colliding with a police motorcycle, injuring the officer, authorities said July 14.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Valley Traffic Division received a report from a witness about a stolen vehicle Thursday around 3:30 p.m., according to the police department.
Officers discovered the vehicle at an undisclosed location and attempted to make contact with the occupants, described as a 13-year-old boy at the wheel and a 15-year-old girl as a passenger. They fled in the vehicle, prompting a chase, according to police.
The pursuit ended when the boy collided with a motorcycle officer, who was later transported to a hospital for treatment and released, police said. The boy subsequently collided with another vehicle whose occupant was also taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The person has since been released.
The boy was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said. The girl was arrested but later released. Due to their ages, their names will not be released.
Anyone with information regarding the pursuit or collision was urged to contact the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division Detective at 213-486-6850. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. During business hours or weekends, calls should be directed to 877-527-3247.
