Ten minors allegedly living in the United States illegally were discovered by federal agents during immigration enforcement operations at marijuana farms in Southern California on July 10, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott said on Thursday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, accompanied by National Guard troops, conducted the operations at two sites operated by Glass House Farms, a state-licensed cannabis facility.

One of the facilities is in Carpinteria, a town in Santa Barbara County about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The other is in Camarillo, a community in Ventura County about 50 miles from Los Angeles.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Scott said 10 juveniles were found at one of the facilities, all of them in the country illegally.

He said eight of the juveniles were unaccompanied.

“It’s now under investigation for child labor violations,” Scott said.

Scott posted the statement in response to video footage shared on X by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The footage showed a crowd of people running down a gravel road surrounded by farmland and dotted with multiple vehicles. Clouds of smoke can be seen in the background, and many of the people are coughing and covering their faces. One person can be heard telling the crowd to remain calm.

“Do not panic, do not run, stay calm,” the person says.

Newsom said the video footage showed “kids running from tear gas, crying on the phone because their mother was just taken from the fields,” following the ICE operations on the farms.

The Epoch Times could not verify the video footage.

Separate images shared online and re-tweeted by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli showed dozens of protestors confronting federal agents at the Ventura County location. Clouds of smoke can be seen in some of the images, while some of the protestors appear to be surrounding vehicles at the site.

“Federal agents are executing a search warrant at this marijuana farm,” Essayli said. “Agents have already arrested multiple individuals for impeding this operation and will continue to make arrests. Don’t interfere. You will be arrested and charged with a federal offense.”

In another post, Essayli said one of the protesters appeared to fire a weapon at federal law enforcement.

“FBI has issued a $50,000 award for information leading to the conviction of an Unknown Subject who appeared to fire a pistol at Federal Law Enforcement Officers near Camarillo,” Essayli wrote. “The shooting occurred on 7/10/25 at approximately 2:26pm on Laguna Rd between Wood Rd and Las Posas Rd.”

The Ventura County Fire Department said it was dispatched at about 12:15 p.m. to provide medical aid as a result of federal enforcement activity along Laguna Road near Camarillo. It did not state how many people were treated at the scene.

The Epoch Times has contacted the Ventura County Fire Department for further comment.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, parent agency of ICE, said: “DHS law enforcement is executing a warrant at a marijuana facility. Our brave officers will continue to enforce the law.”

Glass House Brands, owner of Glass House Farms, describes itself on its official website as “one of the fastest-growing vertically integrated cannabis companies” in the United States, with a “dedicated focus on the California market and building leading, lasting brands to serve consumers of every kind.”

According to the website, Glass House owns two facilities—a nearly 22,000 square foot, purpose-built facility, and a primary cultivation operations site, which is located “a short distance” from the facility.

The site is “licensed for every type of cannabis extraction and product manufacturing and is outfitted with the critical infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment to produce the industry’s best, at scale,” the website states.

In a statement on X, the company confirmed its farms were “visited today by ICE Officials,” adding that it “fully complied with agent search warrants and will provide further updates if necessary.”
