President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump honored military mothers during a Mother’s Day event at the White House on May 6.
During the event, the first lady recognized the sacrifice and vital role that wives and mothers play in supporting those who wear military uniforms.
“In every hug, every story read at bedtime, and every sacrifice made without complaint, mothers build the moral foundation of our families,“ Melania Trump said during her comments. ”In doing so, America’s mothers help build the soul of our nation.”
In her comments, the first lady also highlighted the role of mothers whose children serve in the military, and those who have lost children in the service.
“Although I understand the deep pride these families feel in their loved ones’ service to our great republic, I cannot fathom the depth of their sorrow,” she said.
In introducing the president, Melania Trump spoke of the president’s respect for the military.
“Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shapes a caring leader who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone’s child,” she said.
Donald Trump welcomed the mothers to the White House, saying, “There’s nothing more important than military moms.”
He also updated the mothers about the United States’ conflict with Iran, saying, “We’re doing unbelievably well.”
He noted that some believed the topic to be inappropriate for a Mother’s Day event, but said, “I think military mothers want to hear about this stuff.”
The president invited several of the attendees on stage, including Melody Wolfe, the mother of West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, who was shot in the head during an ambush in Washington on Nov. 26, 2025.
Donald Trump praised Melody Wolfe for her belief in her son.
“It was sort of a miracle, actually,” he said. “You know, they talk about the power of positive thinking. I’ve never seen anything like it. ... He had no chance, I’m telling you. And she willed it. And now, it’s something very special. I hear he’s doing fantastic.”
During his comments, the president credited the women in the room and those like them, saying, “From the Republic down to today, our nation’s been strengthened by the love and devotion and the commitment of incredible women ... who’ve served our country, supported our troops, and poured out their care and compassion for this nation that we all love.”
