TLA JOLLA, Calif.—One of the first children delivered in 2025 in San Diego Wednesday was a boy whose parents were both born on holidays.

Luca, son of Andrew and Angela Thweni of Rancho San Diego, was born at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday at Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla.

“He’s our first child and he’s our family’s third holiday baby,” proud dad Andrew Thweni told City News Service (CNS). “I was born on Mother’s Day. My wife was born on Halloween.”

Luca’s mom, 29, is a banker. His father, 31, is employed at a convenience store. The couple have been married two years.

Still at the hospital after the delivery, Thweni told CNS he hadn’t had time yet to smoke a celebratory cigar. But he intends to.

“There are no words to describe the feeling of joy that you have in your heart,” he said of being a father for the first time. “We want at least two more. Who knows? At this point it’s fate.”

Luca is a member of Generation Alpha, the newest generation, but he might not be the very first child born in San Diego this year. A boy named Dawson was born just seconds after midnight at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital to Trinity and Zac Wallace, Fox5 reported.
