LOS ANGELES—A 59-year-old man was killed April 3 after his vehicle reversed and pinned him against a concrete pillar in the Koreatown area.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Kingsley Drive to a report of a fatal traffic collision that occurred around 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Detectives discovered during their investigation that the driver was inside an underground parking garage when he reversed and crashed into a concrete pillar.
The motorist then drove forward and exited the vehicle to inspect the damage moments before the car went into reverse and rolled backward.
He attempted to reenter the vehicle to regain control, but the car began reversing at a high rate of speed, pinning the man between the concrete pillar and the driver-side door until his family freed him, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and took him to a hospital, where he later died.
The incident was under investigation, police said.
