Police are investigating 23 cars that were burglarized Feb. 21 at the North Berkeley BART station.
BART hasn’t provided additional information on the burglaries, according to media reports.
However, an X account called Bart Fare Evaders posted they took place in the early afternoon.
“According to Berkeley police radio, Fifteen Cars have been broken into in the North Berkeley @SFBART Parking Lot February 21, 2024, 12:29 PM”, a post from the account said Feb. 21.
Additionally, according to The Berkeley Scanner, an independent daily news outlet specializing in crime and public safety, an anonymous person told them many people “had their windows smashed and were gone through at NB BART this afternoon.”
“Apparently the smashers had time to rifle through the cars, I can’t imagine why they weren’t caught,” the person told The Berkeley Scanner.
KRON4, a local TV station, reported that police said no arrests had been made.
According to an unrelated recent statement from BART, its rider satisfaction has improved by 7 percent and police presence has increased, compared to last year. The agency also said ridership is up 9 percent.
BART also indicated that 20.3% of riders who were questioned in a survey indicated they had seen police present, according to the statement.
