After winning control of both chambers of Congress, Democrats are signaling how they plan to use that power, from investigating the Trump administration to reducing the costs of healthcare and energy. Even with control of both chambers, Democrats will face limits. President Donald Trump can veto legislation, and major bills could be difficult to pass without broader bipartisan support.

The White House said in a Nov. 4 statement that the president will “again defy the odds,” adding that everyone who has written him off before has been wrong. The White House added that Democrats will attempt to rebuild what it called the censorship regime after Trump dismantled it and re-open the “floodgates of waste, fraud, and abuse after he cracked down on it.”

The Justice Department is sending $64 million to East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana to help combat violent crime. Attorney General Todd Blanche says 47 communities applied for the grant funding through the Model Cities initiative, and East Baton Rouge was one of the winners. The money is part of a $300 million federal initiative awarding grants to four communities, including Jacksonville, Florida; Jackson, Mississippi; and St. Louis, Missouri.
