Two new baby penguins that hatched in May joined the Magellanic Penguin exhibit on Thursday at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif.

Magellanic Penguins are temperate penguins native to the coasts of Argentina and Chile.

After hatching, the chicks were cared for by their parents in their nests for about a month. Then the chicks were taken to a behind-the-scenes nursery to learn to take whole fish from keepers for feedings and to swim in shallow pools.

The chicks were ready to join the rest of the penguins after they fledged, or replaced their downy newborn feathers with water-tight feathers.

The two male chicks represent the fourth generation of Aquarium-born penguins.
