WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump is calling on House Republicans to accept the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was passed after a 24-hour all-night session on July 1.

Several Republicans in the House, particularly members of the House Freedom Caucus, have expressed reservations about the Senate’s version of the bill, which they say will increase spending beyond thresholds set in deals made to pass the House version of the bill in May.

“The Senate’s version adds $651 billion to the deficit — and that’s before interest costs, which nearly double the total ... The Senate must make major changes and should at least be in the ballpark of compliance with the agreed upon House budget framework,” wrote the caucus on social media over the weekend.

Trump urged House Republicans to quickly pass the Senate’s version to meet his self-imposed July 4 deadline.

“It is no longer a ‘House Bill’ or a ‘Senate Bill.’ It is everyone’s Bill. ... We can have all of this right now, but only if the House GOP UNITES, ignores its occasional ‘GRANDSTANDERS’ ... and does the right thing, which is sending this Bill to my desk,” wrote Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The Senate on Tuesday passed the bill by a vote of 51–50, with Vice President JD Vance visiting the Senate to break the tie. Three Republican senators—Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Rand Paul of Kentucky—voted against the bill.

The House Rules Committee is currently debating the Senate-passed bill. The panel will need to clear the bill before it heads for a House floor vote.

The House narrowly passed another version of the bill in late May by a single vote. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) can only afford to lose three Republicans on the floor, assuming all Democrats vote against it.

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) told The Epoch Times on July 1 that he would not support the bill when it comes to the floor. House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-Tenn.) said he will oppose a procedural vote—known as a rule vote—when it hits the floor.

House Republican leadership, in a statement after the Senate approved the package, said it was “ready to finish the job” and deliver the legislation to Trump’s desk by July 4.

Meanwhile, House Democrats are weighing options to prevent Republicans from passing the bill by Independence Day.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday that “all legislative tools and options are on the table.”
