Bringing manufacturing back to the United States means building factories that take years to plan and finish. Trade rules behind those plans can change in a day, as they did after a February 2026 Supreme Court ruling striking down some of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Alex Krutz is the founder and managing director of Patriot Industrial Partners and a former deputy assistant secretary for manufacturing at the Department of Commerce.

With more than two decades in manufacturing and experience implementing America First trade policy, he explains which production he believes belongs in the United States.
