The Oakland A’s announced that 27-year-old former minor-leaguer Sean Murphy has passed away.

Murphy, a right-handed pitcher, was drafted in the 33rd round six years ago out of Keystone College in LaPlume, PA. Mostly used as a starter, Murphy pitched five seasons in Oakland’s system (2010–14) going 32–32 with a 4.26 ERA in 105 games (81 starts).
The 6-foot-6-inch, 215-pound Murphy reached Sacramento (AAA) in 2014 before undergoing Tommy John surgery that September. He sat at all of the 2015 season while recovering.

A lot of sadness in #Athletics clubhouse about Sean Murphy’s death. Sean Doolittle, Stephen Vogt, Scott Emerson all friends with him.
