President Donald Trump says Iran has contacted him about reaching a peace deal, adding that discussions have been positive so far. The president also says a deal on the Strait of Hormuz could come as soon as Wednesday. That’s as an Indian-flagged commercial ship was sunk in the Red Sea after being struck by an explosive-laden boat off Yemen.

The Democratic Senate primary in Michigan is still too close to call, with 95 percent of the votes counted so far. Abdul El-Sayed is narrowly leading his opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens. El-Sayed has not claimed victory yet, but is saying that he has performed better than expected so far. Stevens says that she was unsurprised by the close race, but more time is needed to clear up her path to victory.

Federal agencies say a three-day trucking crackdown called Operation Highway Shield has uncovered hundreds of safety violations and resulted in immigration detentions and criminal charges. Officials say inspectors carried out nearly 35-hundred enforcement stops, placing 766 unsafe drivers or vehicles out of service, and recovering nearly one million dollars in stolen cargo. Homeland Security says more than 50 illegal immigrants were among those detained.
