Severe weather is wreaking havoc across the Midwest and South, as tornadoes damage homes and down power lines. A major storm struck from northern Texas to Minnesota, affecting more than 90 million people, with tornado warnings in multiple states, including Arkansas and Missouri. The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado emergency in Arkansas as debris was lifted 25,000 feet into the air. More than 130,000 customers lost power, and the risk of flash floods remains, with up to a foot of rain expected in some areas.

President Donald Trump announced a 10 percent baseline tariff on all imports into the United States, going into effect on April 5, in addition to reciprocal tariffs on countries the White House calls the “worst offenders” of fair trade with the United States. That’s 60 countries, including communist China, which faces 54 percent U.S. tariffs. The European Union faces 20 percent tariffs. Reactions to Trump’s global tariffs are pouring in from around the world, with widespread criticism.

The Senate passed a resolution to overturn Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods, with four Republicans joining Democrats in the vote. Trump criticized the move, vowing to veto it if it reaches his desk. Meanwhile, industry groups such as the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the American Manufacturing Alliance praised Trump’s tariffs, saying they protect American jobs and level the playing field.
