Harvard University is taking the Trump administration to court over a $2 billion federal funding freeze, escalating a tense standoff. The White House says Harvard failed to meet conditions tied to DEI reforms, protest restrictions, and transparency on anti-Semitism. Harvard argues the freeze threatens life-saving research and is politically motivated. The lawsuit follows new threats to revoke tax-exempt status and cut medical research funding.

World leaders mourned the death of Pope Francis, remembering his legacy of faith and service. The late pope will be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday, where he will lie in state until his funeral takes place on Saturday morning. President Donald Trump announced that he and first lady Melania Trump will be attending the funeral. In the coming days, cardinals from around the world will gather inside the Vatican Palace to discuss and elect a new pope.

A district court judge is questioning the Trump administration’s deportation process for Venezuelan illegal immigrants, saying notices may violate Supreme Court orders. Trump defended his moves. Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot says illegal immigration at the border is down by 97 percent under Trump, and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin hailed a crackdown that led to the arrests of more than 500 criminal illegal immigrants.
