LOS ANGELES—A 27-year-old man suspected of kicking a dog and throwing it down a staircase in the East Hollywood neighborhood was taken into custody, police said on July 8.

Patrol officers from the Rampart Community Police Station responded to the 4000 block of Oakwood Avenue, near Vermont Avenue and Beverly Boulevard, around 3:25 p.m. July 7, regarding information posted on social media by a concerned witness suggesting animal cruelty, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment, where veterinarians discovered that the 7-month-old had broken one of her hind legs from the fall and was poorly nourished.

Joeboury Coleman of Los Angeles was arrested and booked on suspicion of animal cruelty and was being held without bail, police said.

Anyone with additional information regarding the alleged abuse was urged to call LAPD Rampart Burglary Theft detectives at 213-484-3490.
