A federal judge ruled on Friday that immigration officials cannot detain Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The decision came just hours after his release from immigration detention. Abrego Garcia appeared on Friday for a scheduled appointment at an ICE field office. The judge said officials cannot re-detain him until the court conducts a hearing on the motion for a temporary restraining order.

Two lawsuits challenging Wisconsin’s congressional maps moved forward on Friday as two newly formed three-judge panels met for the first time. Both suits argue that Wisconsin’s eight districts—six of which are currently held by Republicans—are unconstitutionally drawn to favor the GOP. Any final panel rulings can be appealed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
