Homeless Man Dies After Vehicle Set on Fire in South LA

LOS ANGELES—A homeless man who was burned during a vehicle fire Aug. 6 morning in South Los Angeles died the same day at a hospital, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 1:39 a.m. to 102nd Street and Avalon Boulevard, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital with third-degree burns, where he was initially listed in grave condition, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

The vehicle had been parked at the location for about a month, KTLA5 reported. According to multiple media reports, someone tossed some sort of an accelerant into the parked car while the victim was sleeping in it.

Police have not released any further information, and no suspect information was immediately available.
