CANOGA PARK, Calif.—One person died Jan. 14 after a tanker truck burst into flames and spilled an estimated 1,000 gallons of fuel after colliding with a passenger vehicle and careening into a fountain in Canoga Park.

Firefighters were called at approximately 1 a.m. to 6500 N. Canoga Avenue to secure the area and contain any runoff.

Private contractors were called in to remove the tanker truck, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

The occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stewart said Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue are closed for an unknown duration because of the spill.

No other injuries were reported.
