Quarterback Drake Maye and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan are the NFL’s Offensive Players of the Week.

After struggling early in the season, Maye came back with a bang against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. McMillan earned his first player-of-the-week award for his performance against the Detroit Lions.

Foye Oluokun and Deonte Banks earned the defensive awards; Matt Araiza and Will Reichard won the special teams awards.

Maye led the New England Patriots to a 29-26 win over the Buffalo Bills, completing 22 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns with an interception and one sack.

It was a resurgence for Maye, who had previously thrown six interceptions to just one touchdown through the first three weeks, and totaled just 585 passing yards.

“I think we’ve definitely got to build off it,” Maye said of his performance after the game Sunday. “I think this is relieving a little bit, but we’ve still got some work left out there.”

The award is his second AFC Player of the Week of his career.

On the NFC side, McMillan exploded last week in the Panthers’ 32-26 win over the Detroit Lions Sunday night. He caught 14 passes for 192 yards, both of which led the league; he also had two touchdown catches, one from 32 yards out and another from 10 yards.

It was the first Offensive Player of the Week award of McMillan’s career, and he became the first Panthers wideout to win one.

He set the Panthers’ single-game record for receptions and tied for the second-best in receiving yards.

“Maybe just the atmosphere, the prime time moments,” McMillan said after the game when asked what went right for him.

“Everything just clicked tonight.

“There were some plays throughout the week that we may not have hit on. Um, but shoot, the OC’s called it … and Bryce trusted it … I can’t tell you what happened tonight. Maybe it was just the Charlotte air. I don’t know.”

Jaguars Linebacker Shines

On the defensive side of the ball, the AFC award went to Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun. It is his fourth award, and his second with the Jaguars.

Oluokun totaled seven tackles, forced a fumble, and intercepted a pass in the Jags’ 22-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Going into practice, you practice basically a certain amount of routes, and when they give you that look, you know what to expect,” Oluokun said of the red zone preparation that enabled his interception.

“First they stop the run, make them get to these throwing downs, and then when they do give you these routes, be able to match them. So we executed our leverages and our help and everything, and we [were] on the matches and the ball was thrown to me. So I was very excited to catch it.”

First Weekly Honor

On the NFC side, Banks finished with four tackles, four passes defensed, and an interception in the Giants’ 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals to earn his first weekly award.

With 11 seconds left in regulation, the Cardinals had the ball on the Giants’ 4-yard line and were attempting to tie the game.

QB Jacoby Brissett threw a pass to Michael Wilson; Banks undercut the route and raced 98 yards for a walk-off touchdown.

“I had been getting formations with a tight end and a receiver to the same side,” Banks said of the pick.

“I'd been thinking slant all day, and they hadn’t been giving it to me. So that one, I just played it true, and he ran what I thought he was going to run. I just took it.”

The Special Teams award for the NFC went to Minnesota Vikings kicker Will Reichard: Reichard went 5-for-5 from 47, 50, 33, 41 and 29 yards out, contributing all of the Vikings’ points in their 15-10 win over the Miami Dolphins. It was his first weekly award.

For the AFC, Kansas City Chiefs punter Matt Araiza punted five times for 238 yards (47.6 yards per punt) and landed all five of his punts inside the 20-yard line in the Chiefs’ 30-27 win at the Las Vegas Raiders.

He also rushed for 12 yards on a successful fake punt in the first quarter. It was his first award as well.
