LOS ANGELES—Authorities sought the public’s help on July 14 to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for killing an 85-year-old man and injuring his adult grandson as both men were crossing a street in the Baldwin Hills area.

Paramedics sent to the 4200 block of Santa Rosalia Drive about 9:30 p.m. Thursday took both men to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The older man died at the hospital, police said. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. The younger man was listed in stable condition.

“An unknown-type, dark-colored vehicle was traveling eastbound ... [on] Santa Rosalia Drive at a high rate of speed,” a statement from the police department said.

“The driver struck two pedestrians who were attempting to cross the street,” police said.

A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve a fatal hit-and-run.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 323-421-2500 or 877-LAPD-247. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website.
