VALLEY VILLAGE, Calif.—Three people were injured Jan. 16—including a young child, possibly an infant, who was reported in grave condition—after a three-vehicle crash on the westbound Ventura (101) Freeway in the Valley Village area, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the freeway at Tujunga Avenue about 1:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which said one person was extricated from the wreckage.

The fire authority said one of the three people rushed to the hospital was a young child in “grave” condition who was ejected from one of the vehicles. The age and gender of the child were not immediately known.

The two other patients were a man who was listed in fair condition and a woman in serious condition.

During the crash, one of the vehicles was overturned, authorities said. The authority reported that one of the vehicles was an SUV and the other was a semi-truck, but it was not immediately clear which car was overturned.

A SigAlert was issued at 1:46 p.m. for lanes 3, 4, and 5 and the on-ramp of the westbound Ventura (101) Freeway at Tujunga Avenue. It was initially for one hour, but was extended an additional hour. The California Highway Patrol said the alert was expected to be lifted around 4:15 p.m. Monday.

No further information was immediately available on the cause of the crash.
