Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Michael Bolton is in “very good health” two years after his glioblastoma diagnosis, his three daughters and primary caretakers shared in a recent update.

In an interview with AARP published on Dec. 19, the singer’s daughters, Isa Bolton, 50, Holly Bolton, 48, and Taryn Bolton, 46, opened up about the highs and lows of his brain cancer battle while shedding light on his positive prognosis.

“We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our Dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health,” Isa Bolton, 50, told the outlet.

“He has a lot of challenges, and we do have great days and some tough days, but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific. So, we’re in a really good place right now.”

Michael Bolton, 72, was diagnosed with the aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer in Dec. 2023, undergoing emergency surgery at the time to remove a tumor.

A second surgery followed in January 2024 as a result of medical complications. Focusing on his recovery, the artist subsequently took a break from performing and completed chemotherapy and radiation treatments that year.

“I’m feeling deeply grateful,” Michael Bolton said about his recovery via email to AARP. “This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined, but it’s also made me more aware of the moments that fill life with meaning: having meals with my family, hearing my grandkids laugh, stepping outside on a beautiful day and just taking it in.”

Currently, the singer undergoes regular MRI scans to monitor any regrowth of tumors, and faced mobility and short-term memory issues.

“My daughters have been constant in a way that grounds me,” he continued. “On the harder days, they help me stay centered; on the lighter ones, they bring out the laughter that makes everything feel possible again. They remind me of who I am and what’s worth fighting for.”

Michael Bolton shares his three daughters with his ex-wife Maureen McGuire. Together the sisters have dedicated their time in providing a primary support system for their father in a hands-on and emotional way.

“We each help to honor him in various ways,” said Isa Bolton. “Most families—most people—would be able to rely on friends and family, to hold them and to hug them and to support them and care for them. We became a very small island.”

His younger daughter, Taryn Bolton, and her children, live with Michael Bolton full-time at their residence in Westport, Connecticut. Isa Bolton also resides nearby, spending three days a week with them, while Holly Bolton offers additional hands-on care for one week out of each month, flying in from California.

“For families that are experiencing this type of diagnosis and who are challenged, which would be most families—I can’t imagine what that experience would be,” the sisters said on caretaking. “That said, having a brain cancer diagnosis is a unique club that no one wants to join. It is terrifying.”

Michael Bolton is surrounded by love and laughter from his children and six grandchildren, something his daughters reaffirm is the best form of medicine.
