T&T Supermarket, an Asian grocery chain from Canada, opened its first California location in San Jose on June 18 at 9 a.m.
“San Jose is a long-anticipated store,” Tina Lee, CEO of the supermarket chain, said in a press release. “We’re bringing more than just exciting, high-quality foods. We’re exporting a new way of life from Canada: one that’s deeply food-centric, celebratory, rich in tradition, and fresh-obsessed. We aim to help Asian families stay connected to the food and traditions they grew up with. In pursuit of this cause, T&T has also become a destination for Asian food discovery for everyone.”
The company said this store is a major milestone in its U.S. expansion. T&T opened its first U.S. location in 2024, a 76,000-square-foot store in Bellevue, Washington, which it said is the state’s largest Asian supermarket.
The West San Jose location in Westgate Center on Saratoga Avenue is T&T’s third U.S. location after it opened another Washington store in Lynnwood last November.
The supermarket, founded in Vancouver in 1993 and headquartered in Richmond, BC, calls itself the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada. T&T said it has more than 38 total stores.
The company said its new store will feature thousands of products including those from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian, and other Asian cuisines, as well as its private-label items such as soup pork dumplings, green onion pancakes, and Taiwanese-style sausages.
The supermarket also held pop-ups at San Jose’s Santana Row on June 6, 7, 13, and 14, the two weekends prior to its grand opening, with snacks, games, and giveaways, according to the press release.
T&T has plans to expand to other California locations. In April 2025, it announced it will open a 34,000-square-foot store at The Canopy in Irvine, and in June 2025, it announced a 61,000-square-foot store at the Crossroads Marketplace in Chino Hills.
In November 2025, it announced a 52,000-square-foot store at Friendship Plaza in Millbrae, which will feature a sushi counter and a self-serve hot food bar, and another location in the City Center Mall in San Francisco. Lee said she had had her eye on Millbrae for some time.
“It’s a great spot to serve families living in the peninsula and well spaced between our San Francisco and San Jose locations,” she said in a press release.
The opening dates for these new stores have not yet been announced.
The company was founded by Jack and Cindy Lee and named after their two daughters, Tina and Tiffany.
Tina Lee became CEO of the supermarket after her mother, former CEO Cindy Lee, retired in 2014.
