Walmart to Give Burger King Discounts to Its Members

Walmart announced on Aug. 22 that it would be joining forces with Burger King and giving its Walmart+ members discounts to the fast-food restaurants.

The new dining perks begin now for Walmart+ members, who will receive 25 percent off any Burger King digital order every day at participating restaurants. In addition, members will receive a free Whopper every three months starting in September. The free burger is limited to one per quarter.

In a statement, Walmart dubbed it a “first of its kind partnership” that will enhance the value and convenience of its Walmart+ membership.

Walmart+ was launched in 2020 with similar perks to Amazon Prime. The program costs $98 per year or $12.95 per month and offers members digital and in-store benefits including free shipping, free delivery from the store, discounts on gas and travel, and other perks such as streaming services. It’s less expensive than the $139 per year Amazon charges for Prime membership.

Walmart also said that most Americans eat from quick service restaurants several times a week and that this dining benefit will save its members time and money.

Walmart+ members can get the dining benefit by using the BK App or via bk.com and will need to link their membership with a Burger King Royal Perks Account.

Both Walmart and Burger King extolled the benefits of the new partnership.

“The inclusion of a Burger King benefit in our Walmart+ membership portfolio is exciting,” Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+, said in the statement.

“We consistently strive to offer benefits that focus on our members, aligning with our commitment to deliver undeniable value and convenience. We’re confident our members will welcome the additional savings, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with a trusted brand like Burger King to offer this benefit.”

Burger King’s senior marketing officer said it welcomed the partnership with Walmart.

“Burger King has long been known for offering guests high-quality products for a great value—an approach that’s shared by our friends at Walmart, making this partnership a natural fit,” Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer of Burger King North America, said in the same statement.

“We’re thrilled to join the Walmart+ program as its first ever dining partner and look forward to providing members of Walmart+ even more savings on their flame-grilled favorites at Burger King.”

According to the Fast Food Industry Statistics (FFIS) 2024, Americans have a large appetite for fast food, and digital orders are a growing trend. 

The study found that 84 million Americans consume fast food daily and that consumers worldwide devour approximately 50 billion burgers on an annual basis. 

In addition, technological advances and digital innovations have affected the fast-food industry. More than 60 percent of orders are now being placed online on mobile apps, according to FFIS.
