The 2025 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, which was hosted earlier this month by President Donald Trump, has been released on the CBS and Paramount+ streaming services.
The president said in a Truth Social post that the stream was scheduled to start Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
Trump hosted the event on Dec. 7, marking the first time in its nearly 50-year history that any current or former president has been the master of ceremonies.
“A very big hello and welcome to a very special evening, and one of the most important evenings in the American cultural realm,” Trump began his opening monologue in the ceremony. “This is something going to be very special, and the Kennedy Center is very special, and we’re bringing this building back to life like nobody ever thought was even possible.”
In a post on Truth Social released a few hours ahead of the special, Trump joked that he was considering a full-time career change from the presidency.
“THE TRUMP KENNEDY CENTER HONORS will be broadcast tonight, on CBS, and Stream on Paramount+,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Tell me what you think of my ‘Master of Ceremony’ abilities. If really good, would you like me to leave the Presidency in order to make ‘hosting’ a full time job?”
The annual event has primarily been intended as a forum to recognize celebrities with the most pronounced influence on American culture and arts since 1978.
This year, the ceremony honored actor Sylvester Stallone for the “Rocky” and “Rambo” series in which he played the titular characters, Gloria Gaynor for her song “I Will Survive,” the rock band KISS, country music singer George Strait, and Tony Award-winning actor Michael Crawford.
On Truth Social, Trump described the individuals selected as “true GREATS in the History of Entertainment.”
The special, which comes in at two and a half hours, premieres a few days after the board of the Kennedy Center voted to rename the complex the Trump–Kennedy Center, with preliminary steps to update signage already underway.
Trump was chosen to host the show by the Kennedy Center’s board, which was also responsible for selecting the 2025 honorees.
Asked how he had prepared to fill the role on the red carpet ahead of the event on Dec. 7, Trump told reporters that he “didn’t really prepare very much.”
“I have a good memory, so I can remember things, which is very fortunate,” Trump said. “But just, I wanted to just be myself. You have to be yourself. Johnny Carson, he was himself.”
Trump was asked to host the event by the Kennedy Center’s board after replacing the entire board with individuals more favorable to the administration’s priorities.
He has indicated in the past that he was directly involved in selecting candidates for this year’s award.
Trump has been open about his closeness to Stallone, who was named a “Hollywood Special Ambassador.”
